A LOVE OF COMMUNICATION
Kelley holds a Master of Science in Technical Communication from Montana Technological University. She is passionate about sharing scientific research in a way anyone, no matter their background, can understand. With 15+ years of experience writing and editing, Kelley considers clear communication her superpower.
She currently works as director of research communications at the University of Oregon. On the freelance side, she serves as a contract editor and writer for the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and as a science writer for Environmental Health Perspectives. She is currently working on a global edit and formatting of a report for the Bureau of Indian Affairs on mining waste affecting Lake Superior and the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community.
Previously she worked as a science writer and project strategist at Michigan Technological University. Kelley has worked as a newspaper reporter, editor, photographer, copy editor, and page designer in Nebraska and Montana. She also managed two brewery taprooms.
In addition to science writing and editing, Kelley works as a university social media manager. As a person who believes in continuous improvement, Kelley is actively learning more about and employing SEO best practices. She has built a number of websites in WordPress (including this one), Wix, and Squarespace. Kelley frequently works with mixed teams of writers, designers, and visual creators on collaborative projects.
Kelley is based in Eugene, Oregon, where she grows an enormous garden. She knits prolifically and writes speculative fiction in her free time.
